Parental Involvement
PARENTS SHOULD
- Give positive encouragement to ALL players
- Volunteer for support activities like publicity, treasurer, team manager, team sportsmanship liaison, web site administrator, photographer
- Enjoy the games!
- Enjoy the development of the kids!
- Show appreciation for referees, coaches and other volunteers.
- Listen to your child without comment or judgment. If action is required, let them have the opportunity to initiate solutions.
- Give your child a hug and smile after each game and practice.
- Make HISTORICAL comments during the game. Notice the great things that happened (GREAT PASS! WAY TO BE TOUGH OUT THERE!)
PARENTS SHOULD NOT:
- Coach your child from the sidelines
- Make REAL TIME comments during the game (Pass! Shoot!) No one should be making these comments. They are not helpful and in fact add a third decision in an already complicated game.
- Undermine the coaches, other players or parents with your comments to other parents.
- Address a referee in any way. Leave problems with officiating to the coaches.
